Contest Time!
Scott Terry, the original Reformed Farmer himself, at Homesteader Life, is sponsoring an essay contest for youngsters with spectacular cash and gift certificate prizes for first and second place winners. Contest is open to ages 18 and under, and the topic is Restoring the Home Economy. Go check it for out for further details ASAP! Deadline is March 15, so have your "Junior Agrarians" sharpen their pencils and put on their thinking caps.

Over on my Sugar Mountain Farm blog on the Chainsaw Whoas post you asked about chain saw recommendations. We have Husqvarna chain saws Rancher with 18" bars. I like that model. Plenty of power. It is heavy - builds strong shoulders - but never lets me down. Start out slow with the saw, short sessions. I had a Stihl before. Worked fine. I don't have a lot of experience with other brands. Perhaps someone else can chime in with what they want. Do take a chain saw safety course. It is time and money well spent plus fun. I spiked the stake with the tree and won the T-shirt. :)
